“My place on Earth”
|
Last year we took part in a nationwide competition. Our English teacher Grażyna Kwaśniewicz offered us to participate in this contest. The main topic of this competition was " My place on Earth ". It was organized by the Polish National Geographic and the New Era Publishing House.
The work had to be written in English in a form of a newspaper. We did not have much time and it was a lot to do so we had to hurry... Our group consisted of 6 girls from class IA such as: Joanna Krajewska, Karolina Gnap, Klaudia Mucha, Magda Fiejtek, Adriana Wojtanowska and Patrycja Górecka. We had to describe (in an interesting, encouraging way) our "place on Earth" that is our town, school, beautiful countryside and interesting people.
The girls had different tasks. Adriana dealt with the legends. Here (in the Bieszczady Mountains) almost every place has its own legend which explains the name of the village, mountain or valley. She wrote about Biesy and Czady and explained the origin of the name of our mountains. Karolina and Madzia conducted an interview with the great sculptor – Zdzisław Pękalski. He told us about his art.
It was an amazing adventure and we got to know something completely new…There are many great artists for example painters or sculptors in our area. Patrycja worked on the introduction...Asia and Klaudia cooperated with the teacher of biology Małgorzata Pelc. They did some experiments on water and checked the degree of pollution. It was also an unforgettable and funny experience.
Together we managed to finish the work on time.... Our teacher sent the work completed by us and we were waiting for the results…
Although we did not win, it was a wonderful experience and we had a great time. You can see the final result of our work.
We hope it wasn’t the last project we took part in and we really encourage other students from our school to participate in similar works.
